Today marks five years since Ian Ayres, Sales and Operations Director, joined the Eurobase team.

Joining just a couple weeks after Managing Director Paul Springall, Ian has made a real impact over the past five years. To celebrate the occasion, we asked Ian to reflect on his time at Eurobase People by answering five questions for five years.

Here’s what he had to say:

1. How has Eurobase people changed over the last five years?

“We have gone from having little structure, to a team with a clear understanding of expectations along with a clear career pathway. There is now a strong focus on quality, collaboration, and accountability, with everyone always aiming to exceed expectations. The growth in mindset and culture has been key.”

2. Have you seen a change in the industry since you started?

“It’s been a rollercoaster journey with plenty of ups and downs. The industry has changed massively, from huge demands to sudden slowdowns, especially during COVID and the last 18 months with the downturn in the market. Also seeing how, AI is reshaping recruitment, and adapting to these changes can be challenging but they have also been a great learning experience.”

3. What has been the biggest challenge in the last five years?

“The market conditions over the last 18 months have been particularly tough, with the economic uncertainty impacting hiring needs. Adapting to these shifts while maintaining strong client and candidate relationships has been key for the business, also it has reinforced the importance of resilience and adaptability in what we do. Thankfully the market is now moving in the right direction.”

4. What’s something you’ve been proud of in the last five years?

“I am incredibly proud seeing certain individuals who came into the business with no experience in recruitment evolve into consistent billers. Watching them develop their skills, take ownership of their roles, and achieve their success so far, has been extremely rewarding.

“Another key highlight has been playing a role in bringing on a major account, which has had a huge positive impact on our revenue, this has now given us the confidence to grow our delivery function to a much bigger level.”

5. What do you hope for in the next five years?

“In the next five years, I hope to play a key role in growing and developing our team, ensuring we have the right talent and leadership in place to support the company’s overall success. I want to contribute hugely to the company’s 5-year plan.

“A big goal is to ensure that we are recognised by global leading organisations for offering a highly successful and reliable delivery function, also being seen as a trusted partner who consistently EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS.”
