BI DEVELOPER


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Develop elegant and performant ETL processes using Azure technologies, in line with industry best practice (e.g. Azure SQL Database, Data Factory and others)
- Work closely with the wider Data Engineering Team (including Business Analysts) to ensure changes are implemented in line with business requirements
- Ensure changes are managed effectively, with appropriate task and project planning, communication, testing, training and logging via DevOps
- Create, maintain and release SQL solutions using DevOps / Git
- Understand, adapt and utilise the dimensional model and technologies which underpin our business intelligence deliveries.
Platform/Database Administration:
- Support & maintain the BI Platform / Infrastructure, including managing security, Database Administration, undertaking troubleshooting/detailed investigations and fulfilling BAU requests
- Identify and resolve performance issues (e.g. query tuning, optimise code)
- Raise Incidents/Requests & collaborate closely with Microsoft & Clarion IT
- Lead on BI testing for IT Releases/Upgrades
- Undertake software installations & upgrades (E.g. Powershell modules, on-prem SQL)


EXPERIENCE:

Essential:
- Demonstrable experience of developing Data Warehouse and/or Database solutions using SQL Server (ideally, Azure SQL Database)
- Development using Azure Data Factory and/or SSIS
- Understanding of Dimensional/Data Modelling (e.g. Kimball)
- Development with Visual Studio 2019 and DevOps/Git
- Experience of query optimisation/performance tuning (e.g. able to analyse Query Store/Plans, indexes)
- Knowledge of database security (e.g. on SQL Server)
- Comprehensive knowledge of business intelligence, including best practices, processes, principles and technologies
- Understanding of data security (e.g. data masking) and GDPR
- Experience of undertaking Testing/QA (and peer reviews)

Desirable:
- Experience of working with Cloud resources (PaaS, IaaS)
- Experience of developing enterprise-wide, large scale ETL solutions
- Experience in a DBA or support role & working with third parties
- Development with PowerShell / Azure Runbooks
- Development with SSAS/Azure Tabular Models
- Development with SSRS
- Development with Power BI
- Experience of extracting data from REST APIs
- Recognised Azure qualifications
- DAX
- Synapse Analytics, including Spark
